Odessa “Queen” Thornhill
SINGER; POET; DANCER; Odessa Thornhill, better known to her friends as “Queen”, is as Montreal’s Mirror so perfectly phrased it:”Montreal’s Monarch!”. Questioning life in her poetry, hypnotizing listeners with her voice, while weaving tales through dance. Queen is a resident vocalist in Montreal’s Kalmunity Vibes Collective, whose talents have led her to tour and perform with two of Cirque du Soleil’s shows (La Nouba and Totem), record with international recording artist K-maro (France) and Shy’m (France) and share stages with Ethnic Heritage Ensemble(U.S), Lillian Allen(Canada), Dr.Afua Cooper(Canada), Warrior King (Jamaica) Obsesion(Cuba), Zale Seck(Senegal) and Cameroonian representative Muna Mingole, to name a few. Queen is presently studying and performing with Zab Maboungou/Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata (African Contemporary) Keep your eyes open for this artist in the near future..
Jason “blackbird” Selman
Jason “Blackbird” Selman has served the Montreal arts scene for more than a decade as both poet and trumpet player. He has self published several chapbooks over the years culminating in his first published work The Freedom I Stole (2008, Cumulus Press). He has also served as co-editor for the poetry anthology Talking Book which chronicles the writings of the one of a kind musical ensemble Kalm Unity Vibe Collective (of which he is a founding member). Jason is also a part of the dynamic live Hip Hop group Nomadic Massive. He is the creator and producer of the Intimate Sky performance series which features select members of bothKalm Unity and Nomadic Massive in enlightening and intimate small group configurations.
